Privacy

The Los Angeles Chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH ("LA ACM SIGGRAPH", "LASig", "the Chapter") is commited to protecting the privacy of its members and other individuals with whom it interacts.

LA ACM SIGGRAPH is a chapter of Association for Computing Machinery ("ACM") and is bound by their privacy policy. The policy stated here only provides additional restrictions of clarifications to ACM's Privacy Policy.

LASig collects the information listed below from its members for the purpose of maintaining their membership status.

  • Full name
  • Email address
  • ACM member number (optional)

As all of our business is conducted online, a valid email is required. For the security and protection of all members, officers, and volunteers, your full (first and last) name is required. If you are a member of ACM, we ask for your ACM member number to help promote the chapter within ACM.

The chapter allows you to provide your location information, address, city, state, zip. This is completely optional. LASig uses it to help plan location of events (when we do physical events) to better reflect people's location.

Electronic membership payments are accepted. Payment is handled using PayPal. LASig does not receive any of your credit card information. We are notified when payment is accepted and is complete.

Webinars and other electronic or virtual events may require registration with Zoom. LASig does receive a report containing your registration name and email address plus any other questions that are asked during registration. We may use this information to solicit membership.

LASig maintains a website to be used as the primary communication tool from the chapter leadership to members and the community. All members have an account on the website that can be used to access all of the public portion and some member-only content. Members may access the public portions of the site without logging into their account. The member-only area is only available after successful login.

The Chapter sends emails to all members through a member-only mailing list. You are automatically subscribed to this list with your membership. You may unsubscribe from this list at any time using the instructions at the bottom of the email. If you do so, you will not receive any member-only information including events and announcements. Account information will continue to be sent to your email on file.

The Chapter also maintains a general announcement list. Messages of general interest and general announcements, including some events, are sent through that list. You are automatically subscribed to this list with your membership. You may unsubscribe from this list at any time using the instructions at the bottom of the email. If you do so, you will not receive general announcements. The Chapter leadership attempts to only send out a message on one of the two lists.

You name and email is never distributed, leased, rented, or sold to anyone except ACM for use for official member business. At times LASig may notify you about events sponsored or hosted by other organizations. The sponsorship and/or hosting will be clearly labeled. Participation in those events is completely voluntary. The other organizations may have different privacy policies from LASig. It is your responsibility to be aware of those policies.
